Foldflatables <ver. Polyhedron>

Foldflatables is a method for generating multiple shapes from a single geometric net by using inflatable structures with thermoplastic hinges. By locally heating the hinges, the stiffness of the thermoplastic is selectively controlled, and pneumatic expansion guides them to bend into the targeted shape. After cooling, the shape is maintained without the internal pressure. In this exhibition, we present how a single geometric net composed of 18 tiles transforms into a different orthogonal polyhedron each time it is inflated.
