Living Lens

本作品は透明なステージの上を水滴が生き物のように動き回るキネティック流体インスタレーションです。水滴はプログラムに沿って動き続けながらも、常に定まった形状を持たず、 その振る舞いはまるで生きているかのような有機性を感じさせます。技術的には、透明電極上で動作するエレクトロウェッティング技術とその回路を開発し、 新たな水滴制御と表現を試みました。制御と水の素材性の間に立ち上がる質感を光が照らします。

This work is a kinetic fluid installation in which a droplet of water moves like a living creature on a transparent stage. Although the droplet continues to move according to the program, it does not have a fixed shape, and its behavior evokes an organic quality, as if it were alive. We have developed electrowetting technology and its circuit using transparent electrodes, and attempted new ways to control and express with droplets. The light illuminates the droplet’s texture that appears between control and the materiality of water.
