This work aims to mechanize the coloring method of Japanese paintings through digital fabrication technology. Among the traditional coloring methods that have been used to color work such as folding screens and hanging scrolls, we focused on the expression of moriage, in which a thick layer of paint is applied to the canvas, and have 3D printed nikawa-based materials on the canvas. When the 3D printer is used as a novel paintbrush, how can artwork created through the co-creation of the painter and machine open the possibilities of Japanese paintings?
