Paper Electrowetting

Yoshimori Yoshikawa +Eiji Iwase* +Yasuaki Kakehi

This research prototype proposes a novel material expression in which a drop of liquid moves on a pattern of linear electrodes which are printed on paper or film in a design with high flexibility. Electrowetting is a phenomenon that causes the droplet's wettability to change when applying voltage to the droplet through a thin water-resistant dielectric film. By applying this technology, we are attempting to realize expressions using the movement of droplets, not only between an array of electrodes in close proximity, but also between electrodes that are further apart in shapes with a higher degree of freedom.
